It all started with a desire to do something too fast too soon.
I woke up early this thursday and decided enough is enough. I MUST thin down. So what if my back is nagging with a slight pain for a few days? So , I over worked out. And while kick boxing, my back wouldnt budge even while I had aimed a kick mid air.
So I crept back home. Walking a 2 minute distance in 10 min. And then started to limp over to the emergency room. At one point, I thought I would faint with pain. But I bravely refused to take pain killer injections.
Now, I am grounded, for two more days. It's like school only there are no exams to prepare for!
Sick and grounded is terribly boring with normal, human things to do during daylight hours. You know, being a journalist for 8 years, I can't think of much to fill my time with, and a broken back doesn't allow too much activity.
So it's the comforts of the tube, and spicy fast food. I think many would agree the world wouldn't be a beautiful place to live without Friends, The Conan O Brien Show and some other such evergreens.
Am also catching up on movies:) and books. Watched 'Men Who Stare is Goats'. Once again, I thank the hour when the universe witnessed the birth of the creative eye Steven Soderbergh. It's a brave film, one that mocks yet sympathesizes with American army's random experiments. George Clooney, Jeff Bridges and Kevin Spacey play their parts with total conviction. I wonder How the Awards season could skip this one. Up in the Air in comparison, is overhyped.
I also watched Valkyrie on tv, and I think, the poor film got too much of the rough end of a stick. It isn't utter crap.
I am reading a 'turn off the clock and let your imagination visit this land' kind of book. In Siberia, by Colin Thubron is a priceles read, induces serendipity. The blog has a picture of one place the book's described and I wanted to share this with you.
The french Oscar hope for best foreign film, Un Prophete, is a very deserving one. Like The Hurt Locker, the film's treatment and execution is stark yet not over the top stark like a lot of European cinema tends to be. It deals with a current issue and does it poetically. I haven't watched the rest, so can't say,I am rooting for this one, but if Un Prophete wins, I wont be dissapointed.
Lastly, today,I am vindicated, and that makes me smile. I have been witness to an ego fight of a petty man in my professional life, who's in his head, taken on a hugely successful public icon. This petty paper fight with water pistols has carried on in the news realm for three years, but this time, my work place pest decided to take it too far. And of course, got bumped in the head, by a more powerful adversary who was right. Serves him right, may he lick his wounds and gain some sense.
My Name is Khan releases. As it should in a democracy. Its a worthwhile cause to take up, and I am dissapointed that Bollywood didnt fight this battle together. But then,an endorsemeent of mediocrity is what this film industry has proudly worn on it's sleeve. Expecting anything else from Bollywood is stupid.
In any political fight, or demagogue campaign, films, art, music, theater Always take the first brunt. MNIK releasing is a small win in this perennial battle between the liberal thinking minority and the herd mentality possessed majority. Hopefully, we shall continue to win. What else is there to live for?

as for the paper fight with pistols, am all ears. I think i deserve a mail, now that u are resting and you have the time...
And as for SRK, im all for taking on the Sena's Hindutva tripe or Mumbai for Maharashtrians only crap...But i got nauseated by his tweets since this morning at the frequency of one every thirty seconds that reeked of megalomania more than dope...made me wonder if this whole controversy is what is salvaging another karan johar piece of shit...
whoa .. Take care of your back .. try Yoga .. works anytime anywhere for anyone . ok enuf of my preaching ..
ReplyDeleteI thot the SRK-Sena tiff was done overboard .. The Sena needed fodder to feed on and get to headlines ..and Kjo and SRK needed publicity .. after all any publicity is good publicity ..
